Amel Bent, de son vrai nom Amel Bentbachir, est une chanteuse française née le 21 juin 1985 à Joué-lès-Tours (Indre-et-Loire).
Biographie
Amel Bent naît le 21 juin 1985 de parents originaires d'Algérie et du Maroc. Elle a toujours vécu à La Courneuve. Elle adore chanter depuis toujours ; on rapporte que toute petite, elle chantonne déjà. Elle commence rapidement à suivre des cours de chant. Adolescente, elle se destine au métier de psychologue, et va au lycée en section scientifique. Cependant, la musique reste une passion pour elle, ainsi dès 16 ans, elle a l'opportunité de chanter la Marseillaise dans un stade près de chez elle devant 3000 personnes (Emission "On n'est pas couché" du 30 juin 2007).
Elle souhaite ensuite rentrer en faculté de psychologie, mais sa participation à l'émission Nouvelle Star en 2004 (dans laquelle elle finit 3ème) lui vaut un succès important, et elle se fait ainsi repérer par le milieu musical. Cela lui permet de sortir son premier album le 30 novembre 2004, "Un jour d'été", co-écrit avec la rappeuse Diam's. Il sera rapidement numéro 1 grâce aux titres "Ma philosophie", "Le droit à l'erreur" ou encore "Ne retiens pas tes larmes" ; cet album a été vendu à 500 000 exemplaires.
En aout 2006 amel aurait cracher sur une caissiere d'origine magrebine la chanteuse aurait été réprimendé séverement mais l'affaire fut étouffée: la star aurait livrée une somme de plus de 85 000 €.
Amel Bent sort ensuite le single "Eye of the Tiger", reprise du groupe Survivor (sorti en 1982, BO du film Rocky III). Puis en 2007 sort "A 20 ans", nouvel album R'n'B, avec entre autres le single "Nouveaux Français". Pascal Obispo et Charles Aznavour ont notamment participé à cet album.

Her career jump started after making it to the semi-finals of the reality TV show Nouvelle Star 2, France's version of Pop Idol. Although her performance did not make it to the finals, she was still noticed by some of the show's producers, and would end up making her debut album later that year, titled: Un Jour d'été, released in late 2004. The album would sell more than 600,000 copies in France alone, but the success of the album would ultimately be derived from the single, Ma philosophie, which would sell at more than 800,000 copies, staying at the No.1 slot, in France, for more than 6 weeks during and after sales.
