Politico reports that the RNC spent $150K to dress Sarah Palin and her family. According to campaign finance records, shopping trips this fall at Saks Fifth Avenue cost just under $50,000, while several trips to Neiman Marcus cost just over $75,000. Campaign finance experts are questioning the legality of the spending. Politico

Layaway plans at Kmart, TJMaxx and Burlington Coat Factory are surging as consumers start planning early for Christmas shopping. Layaway emerged during the Great Depression but nearly disappeared with the rise of credit cards. WSJ

Analysts predict that the global luxury market will see slow sales during the holiday season and a possible downturn in 2009 due to consumer anxiety about the economy. Reuters

Liz Claiborne Inc. sells urban streetwear label Enyce to Sean Combs. This is the second time this month that Claiborne has sold a brand to focus on its other businesses. WSJ

Glam Media broke into the the Top 10 of comScore’s newest list of most-visited Web sites. The online network promotes itself as a fashion and lifestyle brand for young women but its most trafficked sites appear to be social networks, gaming and publishing. NYTimes Bits blog

Coach lowered its sales forecast for the year after first-quarter income fell by 5.8%. Coach CEO Lew Frankfort says that Coach is not amending expansion plans or changing its earnings guidance for the full year but the brand has lowered sales projections and cut some spending plans for this fiscal year.
